A monthly round up of all things bookish at Sammi Loves Books…It’s my attempt at becoming more accountable in my reading and reviewing habits…
In a nutshell
A bit of a slow month reading-wise, but at least I got reviewed what I planned to review and a bit more. The slowness is down to me trying to get on with some of my writing projects and these have eaten into my available reading time. I’ve been looking forward to Indie Only month, the first of the year’s self-set themed reading challenges. So far, I’ve only decided on two titles, maybe three but I’m planning to see what crosses my path this time round instead of starting July with a set reading list – a deviation from past years. And then, once July is over, we’re straight into the next themed reading challenge, Historical Fiction Month. I’ve no set reading list for this challenge either, though you can always expect an something by Lindsey Davis, Ellis Peters or Karen Maitland (or all three), who are, in my eyes, the queens of historical fiction…

Goodreads Reading Challenge
My goal is 40. I’ve read 20. 50% complete. Currently 1 book ahead of schedule. (Yes, you read that right! This is the second month in a row that I’m ahead!)
Other reads (books not on Goodreads): 1 (Outside the Law by Anthony Berkeley)
Total books read so far this year: 21
Looks like a great list and a reasonable accomplishment to me, especially if you got writing done too! And good job going a whole month without acquiring any new books! June was an especially bad month for that for me. I read three books but managed to buy eleven, oops. Luckily I’m still a bit ahead on my Goodreads goal (23/40) because I started James Joyces’ “Ulysses” two weeks ago and despite spending almost all my reading time on it, I’m still only halfway through. Wow, its reputation for being a difficult read is well-earned. But I’m on a quest now and cannot be dissuaded. 🙂

Thanks, Joy 🙂 I’m trying my hardest not to buy any books at the moment. I have a house full of books that I haven’t read and I would like to try and make a dent in them. It’s slow going though… How’s Ulyssess going?

I keep telling myself not to buy more books and then my will power fails me… I literally have no more room on my two to-read shelves (even double-stacked) so maybe that will stay my hand. I was traveling last week for a family reunion and put Ulysses aside for the trip. I didn’t think I could possibly read it on the plane! Instead I read two other delightfully easy to read books and got partway through a third. My current plan is to finish this third one and then go back to Ulysses, but I can already tell that’s going to be hard because the current book is the first in a trilogy. Still, I think it will be easier to restart the trilogy later than it will be to pick Ulysses back up again — the longer it goes unread, the harder it gets.
