Bookish Reflections – September 2019

A monthly round up of all things bookish at Sammi Loves Books…It’s my attempt at becoming more accountable in my reading and reviewing habits…

In a nutshell

September was a very slow month, book review-wise.  Only one book review posted. :-/  However, I have been reading – and, unsurprisingly, been buying books too.  So October will be a month of catching up.  And, towards the end of the month, it will be time to look towards one or two Halloween reads for my reading challenge.  I have an idea of one or two books / stories to read, but if you have any spooky recommendations, please leave them in the comments 🙂

I need to spend some time this month organising my reading challenges.  I’m on target for my Goodreads challenge but the Sammi Loves Books 2019 Reading Challenge is not looking good…  November is NaNoWriMo, and I need to think carefully if I’m going to take part this year – if I am, I usually cut back on the blogging, so I need to get Sammi Loves Books in order before I can make my decision…

If any writers / poets / authors / etc, would like to be interviewed as part of Afternoon Tea at Sammi Loves Books check out this page for more information, FAQs and an index of all the previous interviews.  If you’ve any questions, please do get in touch at: sammicoxbooks@gmail.com

  1. Your long list of newly acquired books made me laugh, Sammi — sometimes you just have to give up that moderation thing and just splurge! I can relate to the part about not getting books reviewed. I rushed to read several books before the last writers conference, but i didn’t get around to reviewing them, and now they’ve been sitting on my desk far too long. Worse, I have a large pile of books I had planned/hoped to read before World Fantasy Con (starting Oct 31) — books that are nominated for awards and will be discussed in the sessions — and I’m crazy behind on that. But I *have* watched almost the entire first season of the original Star Trek series, so… that counts toward my goal of catching up on SFF classics somehow. 😉 I have one episode of season one left and then I’m going to have to put the other two aside until I catch up on reading and reviewing.

Good luck with your reading & reviewing & posting goals for October!

    • I think you’re right. The harder I try, the worse it gets! Perhaps I’ll have better luck in 2020, but somehow, I don’t reckon I will lol 😀

Yeah, that definitely counts, because they are, of course, classics 🙂 Well, you’ve still another few weeks before World Fantasy Con starts – how books are on your list?

I’m hoping to get caught up with my backlog of reviews soon. It’s on my list of things I want to complete if I’m hoping to do NaNo this year…

      • I have 4 books to review and 6 more books to read before Oct 31. ACK! That is about twice as fast as I would normally go. Plus a TON of job-work to get before then, because I’m going to two work-related conferences directly after World Fantasy Con so I have to prepare to present at those too, not to mention get all those weeks’ worth of work done in advance so that the center keeps operating smoothly in my absence. ACK!

Okay, what am I even doing online? I need to get to work!!!

  2. I see a pattern here in the books you’ve been given, and the books you’re reading. Our Sammi, she does like Whodunnits/Detective books. 🙂
And I’m gonna take you up on that interview offer… once I press that button to publish. And I really wish I’d more time to read. Well, I do read loads… mostly blogs!
